Nesting in the lap of verdant hills, overlooking the Zuari River, the Campus is spread over an area of 180 acres. The location of the campus is unique in the respect of scenic beauty and panoramic view of picturesque surrounding encompassing Zuari River, hillocks, waterways, forests and landscape. The BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus, is about 10 kms south of Vasco-da-Gama, 20 kms north of Margaon and 7 kms east of Goa International Airport (Dabolim), along National Highway – 17 B, Bypass road. The campus is situated 56 km from Mopa Airport (Manohar International Airport) in Goa.
The Birla Institute of Technology & Science, BITS Pilani is an all-India Institute for higher education. The primary motive of BITS is to “train young men and women able and eager to create and put into action such ideas, methods, techniques and information”. The Institute is a dream come true of its founder late Mr G.D.Birla – an eminent industrialist, a participant in Indian freedom struggle and a close associate of the Father of Indian Nation late Mr. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi). What started in early 1900s as a small school, blossomed into a set of colleges for higher education, ranging from the Humanities to Engineering until 1964 when all these colleges amalgamated to culminate into a unique Indian University of International standing. This university was christened as the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, known to many as BITS, Pilani. Goa Campus of BITS Pilani started functioning in August 2004 and was formally inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh on May 5, 2006.
The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems at the BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus is actively engaged in conducting teaching and research, both in foundational and cutting-edge areas of Computer Science and Engineering The department conducts research in the areas of Algorithms, Networks and Systems, HCI, Data Science and Optimization, Computing Education and Software Sciences. The department has 29 full time faculty, 50+ PhD students, 100+ Post Graduate Students and 840+ Undergraduate Students majoring in Computer Science and Engineering. We offer minor programs in Data Science, Computational Economics and Data Science for Climate Change and Health.
The Department has FIVE dedicated research labs. The cumulative citations per faculty stands at 810 with an average Impact Factor of 4.91. The Department is ranked 13th in the prestigious CSRankings for the time period 2020-24 and is placed above several premier institutions in the country offering similar programs.
